Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Warriors Eco- club of the Government College for Women,Parade Ground Jammu in collaboration with NSS Unit of the college and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Jammu organised an awareness programme on Mission LIFE to celebrate World Environment Day under the supervision of principal of the College Dr. S. P. Sarswat. In the inaugural session, Principal of the college briefed the students about the relevance of celebrating Environment Day and the need to address the plastic pollution. Around 150 participants including NSS Volunteers, student members of Eco Club participated in the the programme. A Quiz contest was organised to spread awareness among the students on the topic Beat Plastic Pollution on wherein 16 students of the college participated. After that an awareness lecture on Beat Plastic Pollution was delivered by Mr Randeep Manhas, Senior Scientist and Incharge Plastic Waste Management, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee, Jammu and Kashmir. He talked at length about the ways and means to address the plastic pollution. He briefed the students about the history of plastic and how has it turned up into a menace for the survival of our planet. Students and faculty of the college took pledge on Mission LIFE read by Mr. Anil Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee. Mr. Anil also acquainted the students about the Mission LIFE and it’s importance in maintaining healthy life style for the environment After the lecture, cloth bags were distributed from Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee to the staff and students as a substitute to polythene bags. Later RJ Juhi from 92.7 visited the college with her team and distributed steel bottles among students as a substitute to plastic bottles. The proceedings of the programme were carried out by Dr Harmanmeet Kour, Assistant professor, Department of EVS and member ECO Club and the programme ended with formal Vote of Thanks by Prof. Neha Gupta, Assistant Professor, EvS and member ECO Club.
